Which nationalities are eligible for the ESTA?
Currently, 42 countries, including the United Kingdom, Ireland and most EU countries, participate in the Visa Waiver Programme. In this article, you can read more about the eligible nationalities, the rules for travellers with multiple nationalities and the passport requirements.
Travellers with multiple nationalities
Having more than one nationality is not a problem. However, at least one of them must be eligible for the ESTA. You must enter the details of the passport you will use to travel to the United States. It is important that those passport details match the ones you gave to your airline and that you are travelling with the same passport.
Passport requirements
To apply for an ESTA, travellers must have a valid passport from one of the countries listed below. The passport must remain valid for the entire duration of your stay. You cannot apply for an ESTA using an identity card, a foreign national’s identity document, a residence permit, an emergency passport or a German child’s passport (Kinderreisepass). Persons holding one of the following nationalities are eligible for the ESTA:

Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Switzerland
